One Room Challenge- Week 2- Moldings & Trim

Thanks for checking back in with us for the One Room Challenge. Check out my planning process on our ORC Week One post.
As designers we are always considering wall treatments and millwork to be one of the most important steps in designing a space. We choose trim before we get to flooring, finishes or furniture. When you focus on your walls it makes the space feel much more custom and unique.

For my dining room I knew I wanted a space that felt semi-formal.  Nothing too fancy but also something that felt special.  I have always loved panel molding so I decided to partner with Metrie in my Dining Room to create a molding plan that would work for my space.

Here are some of the rooms that are inspiring me…

One thing I loved about the Modern Farmhouse that we designed is how we incorporated formal feeling millwork like panel molding but could still add in shiplap which has a more casual feel.  I know I want to add shiplap somewhere in my home so it’s important to me that everything still makes sense together.

I perused Metrie’s website for awhile deciding exactly what trim would work for my space.  My home’s current trim around my doors and windows is pretty basic so I didn’t want to do any trim that was too detailed. Everything I chose needed to make sense with the trim I already had.

So these are the pieces I decided to go with.

Chair Rail//Very Square Scene II 2″ MDF  from the Very Square Collection

Panel Molding// Pretty Simple Scene I 1 1/2″ MDF  from the Pretty Simple Collection

To make sure we ordered the correct amount we did a quick mock-up of the room to scale in Auto-cad.

We then sent those measurements over to Metrie and they worked with us to make sure we had the correct amount.

For the installation I’m enlisting the help of local handyman the Taskmaster.  We are always looking for handymen that can work quickly and also do quality work.  He also pretty much does it all! I’m having him install the trim, paint and possibly do some electrical work. He’s a one stop shop when it comes to those little jobs that are hard to do on your own! He is very focused on each project he takes on so he can take the time to do the small stuff that makes or breaks a design.
The molding is getting installed today!! It’s currently in my garage just waiting to be installed. I can’t wait!

Please check in every Wednesday to see the progress of my Dining Room! And don’t forget to check in with all my fellow design bloggers!
