Morgan Farmhouse Design Planning

If you have been following along with us the last few months you may know that one of our owners (Erin Morgan) is renovating an old farm house and making it her dream home.

It has always been a dream of Erin’s to live on a farm. She knew that one day she wanted to have a slice of that in her life. When they came across this small home in Riverton for sale, her and her husband Jared fell in love with it. Erin could envision the potential that the property had, and felt like it was the slice of the secluded farm life she had always wanted but still within reach of a target!;)

Erin and Jared decided to keep the existing house on the property, a 1400 sq ft home built in 1942, strip it down to the bones and do an addition. The original home has gone through lots of changes throughout all of the owners, which has brought up multiple complications. One being the connection of the old with the new. The existing basement, like in most old houses, has a really low ceiling. We were able to raise the height a little by moving support beams up into the floor joists of the upstairs, but it still is only about 6.5′ ceiling. We decided to use that space as storage, a playroom and laundry room.

We connected the old with the new by cutting a doorway in the existing basement that steps down into the basement of the addition. We opened up the exterior wall on the upper floor of the existing and created an open floorplan with the kitchen, great room, dining and master on the main level and in the basement 3 bedrooms, a rec room, a bathroom, playroom, laundry, and storage.

The house is uniquely turned on the property so the front door does not face the road. There is also an existing detached garage. We decided to turn the detached garage into an office space for House of Jade and add a new garage opposite of the detached structure. This naturally created two separate driveways running parallel down the east and west sides of the house, one for visitors and the office, and one for personal use. Attaching the new garage to the addition is a breezeway which we are using as a mudroom.

Erin and the House of Jade team have done all the design and contracting with the help of Northstar builders. With the old home expertise of Northstar and creative vision of House of Jade, we have made a good team. The inspiration and vision she has for the home is a clean, rustic modern farmhouse. With timber beams and clean white finishes and lots of natural wood tones.

We hope you continue to follow along with us over the next few months as we reveal the finished home!
